Health sector graft mastermind Mithu arrested in Gulshan

Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested Motazzerul Islam Mithu, the mastermind of corruption in the health sector during the fascist Awami League (AL) regime from the capital's Gulshan area.

Deputy Commissioner of DB (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the matter on Thursday.

However, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) did not disclose the details about the case.

On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against the contractor on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 75 crore. According to the ACC investigation report, Md Motazzerul Islam (Mithu), owner of Lexicon Merchandise and Technocrat, acquired immovable assets worth Tk 18.40 crore through purchasing agricultural land, leasing land, plots, flats, and constructing houses.

In addition, information has been found about his movable assets worth Tk 57.44 crore, including shares and investments in various companies, purchase of vehicles, bank account balances, gold ornaments, furniture, and electronic items.
