At least four people, including three members of the same family, were killed when a passenger bus rammed into a battery-run easybike on the Dhaka–Khulna highway in Gopalganj’s Kashiani upazila on Saturday.

The accident occurred around noon in the Majhigati area, police said. The victims, all passengers of the easybike, were travelling to a wedding ceremony.

The deceased were identified as Motaleb Paik, 70, his wife Delowara Begum, 55, and their daughter Ruma Begum, 35, from Paikkandi village in Madaripur’s Kalkini upazila; and Obaidul Sheikh, 48, son of Abdur Razzak Sheikh of Helencha village in Alfadanga upazila, Faridpur.

Another passenger, a seven-year-old girl, was injured.

Sergeant Md. Rasel Mia of Bhanga Highway Police said the Dhaka-bound Imad Paribahan bus, coming from Khulna, collided head-on with the easybike, leaving it mangled. One passenger died on the spot and five others were injured.

Locals rushed the victims to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared another passenger dead. Three others, including Ruma Begum and Obaidul Sheikh, were transferred to Gopalganj General Hospital, where both later succumbed to their injuries.

Ruma Begum’s seven-year-old daughter, Nusrat, remains under treatment.

Police confirmed the group was heading from Madaripur to Majhigati to attend a wedding when the crash occurred.
