Political party candidates have taken an oath to maintain law and order in Tangail in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections. The candidates took the oath at an inter-party harmony dialogue program at a restaurant in the city on Sunday afternoon.
The program organized by Democracy International was attended by the party's nominated candidate for Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, Central BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Jamaat-e-Islam's nominated candidate Ahsan Habib Masud, Gano Sanghati Andolan candidate Fatema Rahman Bithi, and Jatiya Nagorik Party's nominated candidate Masudur Rahman Russell.
Democracy International President AKM Monirul Haque presided over the event, while District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, Mymensingh Division Manager Nargis Akhter, and District General Secretary Khandaker Touhidul Islam Babu spoke. Democracy International District Vice President Roxy Mehedi read out a recent dialogue at the event. Former District BNP Member Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, political leaders, and people from different walks of life were present at the event.
The dialogue was directed to maintain mutual respect and political courtesy, and to maintain peace among leaders and workers at all levels of the party. The political party candidates promised to play an active and responsible role in resolving any political conflict that arose in the party or area. If there was a risk of potential conflict, initiatives were taken to mitigate it through rapid communication and coordination. The political leaders also said that if any kind of violence is predicted, they should be ready to take measures to prevent it quickly and that if violence starts from different groups, they should try to resolve the problem through peaceful discussions rather than aggression.
