The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was held on Wednesday afternoon amid an unprecedented turnout of mourners.

The namaz-e-janaza was offered at Manik Mia Avenue at 3:00 PM, drawing hundreds of thousands of people from across the capital and beyond who gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran political leader.

The prayer was led by Abdul Malek, Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, senior BNP leaders, political figures, party activists, and members of the public were present on the occasion.

Law enforcement agencies deployed additional security personnel in and around the venue to maintain order as the massive crowd filled the avenue and surrounding areas.

The large turnout highlighted Khaleda Zia’s enduring influence on Bangladesh’s political life and the profound public response to her passing.
