The government has declared ‘Paper Packaging’ product as the ‘Product of the Year’ for 2026 with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of exportable products in the international market, sustainable development of the industry and attracting new investments. The Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) has commented that this announcement is a historical milestone for the country’s paper packaging industry. BGAPMEA gave this information in a release on Saturday.
It said that the government has declared ‘Paper Packaging’ product as the ‘Product of the Year’ for 2026 with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of exportable products in the international market, sustainable development of the industry and attracting new investments.
This announcement is a historical milestone for the country’s paper packaging industry. This sector, which was once completely dependent on imports, has now achieved export capacity in the international market in addition to meeting domestic demand.
BGAPMEA President Md. Shahriar said, "The paper packaging industry is a strategic supporting sector for Bangladesh's garment and export-oriented economy. We are optimistic that the declaration of 'Product of the Year' will lead to new investments in this industry, use of modern technology, increase employment and significantly increase export earnings."
He also said that in the context of increasing global demand for eco-friendly and sustainable packaging, the paper packaging industry of Bangladesh will be able to create a strong position in the international market.
According to BGAPMEA sources, at the beginning of the garment industry, the country's packaging sector was completely dependent on imports. However, with the investment of entrepreneurs, development of skilled human resources and policy support of the government, this industry is currently playing an important role in achieving self-sufficiency as well as earning foreign exchange.
