The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Bangladeshi nationals while they were attempting to illegally enter India through the Chapainawabganj border. Another individual was arrested on charges of assisting them in crossing the border.

They were detained around 7:00 pm on Wednesday from the Bokchar border area of Sadar upazila. Later, a case was filed against them and they were formally shown as arrested.

The arrested individuals are Mizanur Rahman of Chandpur–Lahlamari in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, Shafikul Islam of Asam Colony in Rajshahi Metropolitan City, and Tarajul Islam of Durgapur in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur. The person arrested for assisting them is Md Shahin, son of Ebadul Islam of Bokchar village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.

The information was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB’s 53 Battalion. He said that acting on a tip-off, BGB members conducted a raid in a village located about 200 yards inside the zero line of the Bokchar border. During the operation, four people, including suspected human trafficker Md Shahin, were arrested.

During preliminary interrogation, the detainees said they were planning to travel to Chennai, India, with Shahin’s assistance, where they were to be sent to work as construction laborers.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, Nur Alam, said that all four individuals have been handed over to the police and a case has been filed against them.
