Thirty-eight valid candidates in six constituencies of Sirajganj

A total of 38 candidates have been declared valid across the six parliamentary constituencies of Sirajganj. Both the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have single candidates in all constituencies. However, sources say that under seat-sharing arrangements, Jamaat may leave two seats to its alliance partners—the NCP and Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis. If alliance partners withdraw their nomination papers as part of this understanding, the total number of candidates may decrease.

Sirajganj District Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary Shahidul Islam said that under the seat-sharing arrangement, Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur) has been allocated to the NCP. Sirajganj-3 (Rayganj and Tarash) may be allocated to Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, although a final decision has not yet been made. Once the decision is finalized, Jamaat-nominated candidates in these two constituencies will withdraw their nomination papers.

Sirajganj Election Office Additional Election Officer Mohammad Mashiur Rahman said that initially 56 candidates collected nomination forms across the six constituencies, of whom 45 submitted their nominations. After scrutiny, the returning officer rejected 13 nomination papers and declared 32 candidates valid. Later, through appeals, the Election Commission declared six more candidates valid. At present, the total number of valid candidates stands at 38.

Constituency-wise valid candidates:

Sirajganj-1 (Kazipur and part of Sadar): 6 candidates — BNP’s Selim Reza, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Shahinur Alam, Jatiya Party’s Zahurul Islam, Gano Odhikar Parishad (GOB)’s Mallika Khatun, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party)’s Shabbir Hossain Tamim, and Nagorik Oikya’s Nazmus Sakib.

Sirajganj-2 (part of Sirajganj Sadar and Kamarkhanda): 6 candidates — BNP’s Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Jamaat’s Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Md. Muhibullah, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BASD)’s SM Abdullah Al Mamun, Gano Odhikar Parishad (GOB)’s Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, and, through appeal, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB)’s Anwar Hossain.

Sirajganj-3 (Rayganj and Tarash): 5 candidates — BNP’s Ainul Haque, Jamaat’s Mohammad Abdus Samad, Jatiya Party’s Fazlul Haque, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis’s Md. Abdur Rauf (declared valid on appeal), and independent candidate Ilias Reza Robin.

Sirajganj-4 (Ullapara): 5 candidates — BNP’s M Akbar Ali, Jamaat’s Rafiqul Islam Khan, Jatiya Party’s Hilton Pramanik, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Abdur Rahman, and, through appeal, CPB’s Abdul Hakim.

Sirajganj-5 (Belkuchi and Chauhali): 6 candidates — BNP’s Amirul Islam Khan Alim, Jamaat’s Ali Alam, Jatiya Party’s Akbar Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Nurun Nabi, Gano Odhikar Parishad (GOB)’s Yusuf Ali, and, through appeal, CPB’s Matiar Rahman.

Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur): 10 candidates — BNP’s MA Muhit, Jamaat’s Mizanur Rahman, NCP’s SM Saif Mostafiz, Jatiya Party’s Moktar Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Misbah Uddin, Amjanata Party’s Asadul Haque, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party)’s Abu Jafar Md. Anwarus Sadat, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD)’s Ilona Khatun, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BASD)’s Anwar Hossain, and Bangladesh Islamic Front (BIF)’s Mosharraf Hossain Shahidul.
