British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke today met Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman at his office in Dhaka to discuss various aspects of holding Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election in a free, fair and acceptable manner.
The meeting took place around 9:30am at Shafiqur’s office in Bashundhara area, according to a press release. Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman, Head of Political Timothy Duckett and Second Secretary (Political) Kate Ward were also present from the British High Commission.
The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and expressed hope that the upcoming election would strengthen democracy and democratic institutions in Bangladesh.
They further voiced optimism that bilateral relations between the two countries, including cooperation in trade and commerce, would become more dynamic in the future.
Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and head of the party’s Central Publicity and Media Department Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, central executive council member Mobarak Hossain, and foreign affairs adviser to the Jamaat ameer Mahmudul Hasan were also present at the meeting.
