A security guard named Jasim Ahmed (44) was killed after being run over by a municipal garbage truck inside the premises of Noman Home Textile Mills Limited in Sripur, Gazipur. The accident occurred around 8:15 am on Monday inside Gate No. 1 of the factory in the Ansar Road area under Sripur Municipality.

The deceased, Jasim Ahmed, was the son of Sirajul Haque of Chairbariya village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh. He lived in a rented house in the Keoya Purba Khanda area of Sripur Municipality and was employed as a security guard at the factory.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a garbage collection truck belonging to Sripur Municipality was entering the factory premises in the morning. At that time, Jasim Ahmed was on duty on the road on the northern side of Gate No. 1. As the vehicle entered the premises, it hit him, causing him to fall under the wheels. He died on the spot. The driver fled immediately after the incident, but the police seized the vehicle.

Sripur Municipality Secretary Badrulzzaman Badal said municipal officials visited the accident site shortly after the incident. The municipal executive officer spoke with the victim’s family, and the municipality has initially agreed to take responsibility for the burial. He also said that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with regulations.

Attempts to contact Iqbal Hossain, Manager (Administration) of Noman Home Textile Mills Limited, for comments were unsuccessful as he did not answer multiple phone calls.

Sub-Inspector Abdul Quddus of Sripur Police Station said the body was recovered and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for autopsy. The vehicle has been seized, and further legal action will be taken following an application from the victim’s family.
