An incident involving an attack on Nasiruddin Patwari, the 11-party alliance candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has sparked strong reactions on social media. Following the incident, Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Coordinator of the NCP’s southern region, described the attack as “planned” and strongly condemned it in a Facebook post.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning (January 27) in front of Habibullah Bahar College in the capital, where eggs were thrown at Nasiruddin Patwari. Shortly after the incident, Hasnat Abdullah shared his reaction through a post on his personal Facebook account.
In the post, Hasnat Abdullah wrote, “My brother Nasiruddin Patwari was attacked by Chhatra Dal in front of Habibullah Bahar College. Dhaka-8 parliamentary candidate Nasiruddin Patwari is a revolutionary fighter from the anti-fascist movement.”
He further questioned the motive behind the attack, writing, “Why are you so afraid of the Patwaris? Unable to tolerate opposing views, you have resorted to attacks so quickly! Is this part of your plan?”
Addressing voters, the post stated, “Voters of Dhaka-8, the decision is now yours. Will you send to Parliament those who accumulated hundreds of crores during the fascist Hasina era and sustained their businesses through deals made over the blood of party activists?”
Highlighting the issue of tolerance and justice, Hasnat Abdullah added, “Those who cannot show tolerance toward a parliamentary candidate—how will they ensure justice for the rights of the people?”
In the concluding part of the post, he appealed to the public, saying, “Dear citizens, do not hand over your future to the patrons of hooligans and to looters and mafias. Be vigilant in protecting your rights and ensuring your own security.”
Earlier, at around 11:30 am on Tuesday, eggs were thrown at Nasiruddin Patwari while he was attending a pre-scheduled programme at Habibullah Bahar College. Video footage from the scene shows that the incident created a tense situation on the campus.
Notably, a similar incident took place earlier on Friday evening (January 23), when dirty water and eggs were thrown at Nasiruddin Patwari during a street meeting in an alley of the Mouchak area on Siddheshwari Road in the capital.
