Tangail intern doctor on 5-day remand over hidden camera case

A court in Tangail has granted a five-day remand for intern doctor Raihan Kabir Emon, who was arrested over allegations of installing a concealed camera inside a washroom used by female doctors at Tangail Medical College Hospital.

The remand order was issued on Tuesday by Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate Golam Mahbub, court inspector Sazzad Hossain confirmed.

Earlier on Monday night, Tangail Medical College Hospital Director Abdul Quddus filed a case against Emon with Tangail Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident.

On Tuesday afternoon, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Jakaria Hossain of Tangail Sadar Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought a five-day remand, which was subsequently granted.

According to Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin, medical college students identified Emon following allegations that he had installed a hidden camera in a washroom designated for female doctors.

After the matter came to light, angry intern doctors reportedly confined the accused along with the hospital director inside the premises. Upon receiving information, an executive magistrate, along with police, Detective Branch personnel and army members, rushed to the scene.

As tensions escalated, police took the accused into custody amid protests by intern doctors, the OC said.

The incident has sparked widespread anxiety and outrage among doctors and hospital staff. They have demanded a swift, transparent and impartial investigation, as well as exemplary punishment for those found responsible.
