After a 14-year hiatus, direct air travel between Bangladesh and Pakistan has resumed. Bangladesh Biman Airlines’ inaugural flight will depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday, carrying 162 passengers to Karachi. All tickets for the first flight have already been sold out.
Dr. Safiqul Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Biman, stated that the flight will take approximately three hours from Dhaka to Karachi. The Dhaka-Karachi route was previously suspended in 2012, and the initiative to restart it was undertaken in 2024 under the caretaker government.
Following government approval, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority granted permission for Biman Airlines to operate the flights. The initial permission is valid until March 30, 2026, with potential for renewal. Pakistan’s aviation authorities have assigned a dedicated slot at Karachi Airport and instructed strict compliance with designated routes and safety regulations.
Experts note that the resumption of direct flights will facilitate travel for citizens of both countries and is expected to boost trade, business, tourism, and bilateral relations.
