Uncertainty Looms Over Iran’s Leadership After Khamenei, Warns Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said there is no clear answer as to who would lead Iran if Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were removed from power, highlighting the complexity of any potential regime change in Tehran.

Speaking before a Senate committee, Rubio stressed that Iran’s political system is deeply entrenched and cannot be altered overnight. He noted that unlike some other countries, Iran’s leadership transition would be unpredictable and potentially destabilizing for the region.

His remarks come amid renewed warnings from President Donald Trump over Iran’s nuclear program. Trump has urged Tehran to return to negotiations, cautioning that military options remain on the table if diplomacy fails.

Iran, however, has rejected talks under military pressure, warning that any US attack would trigger an immediate and forceful response. Analysts say the escalating rhetoric on both sides raises fears of a broader regional conflict unless diplomatic channels are revived.
