Tarique Rahman’s Interactive Campaign Brings New Dimension to Bangladesh’s Election Politics

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has introduced a new style of election campaigning by directly engaging with voters across the country. Instead of traditional one-way speeches, he interacted with ordinary citizens during public rallies.

The campaign began on January 22 in Sylhet, where he invited people from the audience to speak on stage. This approach quickly gained attention and became a key feature of his campaign.

According to the BNP media cell, Tarique Rahman attended at least 64 rallies nationwide. He traveled by decorated campaign buses and helicopters and often appeared with his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and daughter Zaima Rahman.

Political analysts believe this strategy mainly targeted young and first-time voters who prefer interactive communication. Experts say such engagement reduces the gap between leaders and the public.

Tarique Rahman emphasized peace and tolerance in his speeches. He urged supporters to avoid provocation and promised strict law enforcement if elected. He also apologized for past mistakes made during previous BNP governments.

Presenting himself as a “family man” was another important part of his campaign. Observers say this helped him appear more trustworthy and relatable.

However, he faced criticism for providing incorrect information at some rallies. Despite this, party leaders argue that his overall strategy improved the BNP’s public image.

The effectiveness of this innovative campaign will be reflected in the election results on February 12.
