Congratulating the new government, calling for the protection of independent journalism

The Federal Journalism Society (FJS) has expressed its sincere congratulations to the newly formed government of Bangladesh. The organization expressed its satisfaction that the government was formed by maintaining democratic continuity.

In a statement, Federal Journalism Society President Ferdous Mamun and General Secretary Suman Pramanik said that as the fourth pillar of democracy, the media plays a role of bridging the gap between the state and the people. Responsible, objective and investigative journalism plays an important role in ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability.

At the same time, ensuring the professional security of journalists, freedom of expression and the right to information are the essential demands of the time. It is called upon to seriously consider the opinions of the journalist community in formulating and implementing media-related laws and policies.

The Federal Journalism Society specifically expects the new government to—

1. Ensuring training and skills of all journalists across the country
2. Taking effective measures to stop torture and harassment of journalists
3. Creating a supportive legal environment to ensure media freedom
4. Ensuring security and facilities for journalists at the district and upazila levels

Furthermore, the Federal Journalism Society is interested in constructive cooperation with the government and all relevant institutions to consolidate the development and democracy of the state. At the same time, it is determined not to compromise on the issue of independent and responsible journalism.

Wishing the success of the new government, the Federal Journalism Society has expressed the hope that this government will uphold the trust and dignity of the journalist community.
