An attempt is being made to make the current generation forget the true history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War, and the media has been urged to remain vigilant and stand by the truth, said Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain.

The minister made these remarks on Friday while addressing the opening ceremony of an exchange meeting and scientific seminar organized with the affiliated bodies of the National Heart Foundation at the Zia Heart Foundation Hospital campus in Dinajpur.

He further stated that almost every positive achievement of Bangladesh is associated with one name and one family—the family of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. One of the most important responsibilities during the Liberation War was to declare the country's independence. However, many did not do so or lacked the courage to make such a declaration. According to him, only martyred President Ziaur Rahman demonstrated that courage by declaring independence and then returning to the battlefield with arms in hand to fight for the country.

The minister said that Bangladesh’s economy stands on three pillars: agriculture and farmers, the garment industry, and remittances. Through proper planning and coordination of these three sectors, BNP and Prime Minister Tarique Zia are leading the country forward.

He added that the contributions of BNP and martyred President Ziaur Rahman to the development of Bangladesh, making the country self-reliant, and preserving its independence are undeniable. The new generation must be provided with accurate knowledge and understanding of these contributions.

The event was chaired by Dr. Hasnain Akhtar Khan, President of the Zia Heart Foundation. Among others, speeches were delivered by Syed Sadiq Riaz, Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-2, and Syed Jahangir Alam, Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-3.

Earlier, the Social Welfare Minister inaugurated a Skills Development Training Course under the Program for Improving the Living Standards of Underprivileged Communities, organized by the Dinajpur District Administration and the Department of Social Services.
