3385 tonnes VGF rice allocated for Gaibandha destitute

The government has allocated 3385 tonnes of rice for the distressed and ultra-poor people of the district under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme on Eid-ul-Fitr.

District relief and rehabilitation office source said the rice would be distributed to a total of 3, 38, 560 VGF cardholders of all seven upazilas including four pourashavas in the district before the Eid.

They said 26, 212 card holders will get the rice in Fulchhari upazila, 71,256 in Sundarganj upazila, 40, 475 in Shaghata upazila, 66529 in Gobindaganj upazila, 41, 116 in Sadullapur upazila, 57, 946 in Sadar upazila and 34,526 in Palashbari upazila of the district.

Apart from this, 4621 card holders of Gaibandha pourashava and 3081 of Gobindaganj pourashava and Sundarganj pourashava each and 1540 of Palashbari pourashava will get the rice.

Each beneficiary will get 10 KGs of rice to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, without food crisis, said Assistant Commissioner and Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Juwel Miah.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Nahid Rasul told BSS that instructions were given to the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) to distribute the rice to the beneficiaries smoothly within very short time.
