18 die in floods, 49 lakh affected: Ministry

The ongoing floods in eleven districts have affected over 49 lakh people and claimed 18 lives, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (August 24) in Dhaka, Disaster Management Secretary Kamrul Hasan provided an update on the situation, noting that flood conditions are beginning to improve.

The secretary reported that the floods have impacted 49,38,159 people and 9,44,548 families across the affected districts.

The death toll stands at 18, with fatalities reported four in Cumilla, one in Feni, five in Chattogram, three in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Lakshmipur, and three in Cox's Bazar.

To support those affected, 3,527 shelters have been opened, housing 2,84,888 people.

Relief efforts include an allocation of Tk 3.52 crore, 20,150 tonnes of relief rice, and 15,000 packets of dry and other food supplies.

Additionally, Tk 35 lakh has been allocated for baby food and another Tk 35 lakh for cattle feed.
