Three people were killed, and at least 20 others were injured in a cylinder explosion while refueling a bus at a filling station in Lakshmipur. Among the injured, 10 are in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 2 AM on Sunday, October 13, at the Green Life Filling Station in Muktiganj, located in Lakshmipur municipality. Panic spread through the area following the explosion.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Zaynul Abedin, an on-duty physician at the district hospital, told the media, “Three people have died from the explosion, and 20 others were injured. Ten of them, who are in critical condition, have been transferred to Dhaka. The rest are receiving treatment at our hospital.”

Describing the severity of the incident, the doctor said, “The explosion was so devastating that some victims lost their hands, while many others sustained serious injuries.”

The deceased have been identified as Suman Hossain, Son of Botumiar from Char Monsa, Bhabaniganj Union; Yusuf Mia, Son of Sujamia from Banchanagar; Hriday Hossain, All three were drivers of CNG-run auto-rickshaws.

The injured include Suman Hossain, Md. Rocky, Mohammad Fahad Hossain, Siraj Mia, Md. Hriday, Shanto Khan, and Abdul Malek, among others. The 10 critically injured individuals were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that a bus from Meghna Paribahan, traveling on the Lakshmipur-Ramgati route, arrived at the Green Life Filling Station to refuel. While refueling, the cylinder suddenly exploded, causing chaos at the station. The three auto-rickshaw drivers died instantly.

Upon receiving the news, two units of the fire service and police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the morgue at the district hospital.

Ranajit Kumar, the station officer of Lakshmipur Fire Service, said, “We reached the spot quickly and rescued the injured and the deceased. All three victims died on the spot. The bus cylinder was of poor quality, which caused the explosion during refueling.”
