The Election Commission will release the final updated voter list on Sunday, March 2. However, the door-to-door voter list update process will continue until June. Despite legal complexities, the commission aims to allow eligible voters to participate in elections until the schedule is announced.
On January 2, 2024, the Election Commission published a draft voter list, adding 1.83 million new voters, bringing the total number to 123.7 million. After addressing objections and reviewing data, the final list will be published on March 2.
Due to discrepancies in the expected number of new voters and the exclusion of deceased voters, the commission began a door-to-door voter update process on January 20. Individuals turning 18 by January 1, 2026, are now being included.
The Election Commission estimates that around 6.2 million new voters will be added if the update process is accurate. As of February 24, a total of 5.49 million citizens have registered, including both new and removed voters, while approximately 1.7 million deceased voters have been removed from the list.
According to voter list regulations, the final updated voter list must be published every year on March 2. The ongoing door-to-door update will result in a draft list in January 2026. If the national election takes place in December, the commission will have to conduct the polls using the voter list published on March 2, 2024.
