A Dhaka court today ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts holding Tk 5.26 crore belonging to former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury (Javed) in connection with graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, accepting a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC, which has formed a team to probe allegations of money laundering against Chowdhury, expressed concerns that he might attempt to transfer his assets.

As a preventive measure, the court agreed to freeze his accounts.

This follows previous actions, including a travel ban imposed on Chowdhury and his wife, Rukmila Zaman, on October 7, 2024.

Additionally, another court ordered the attachment of Chowdhury’s immovable properties on October 17, 2024.
