The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and his wife on charges of acquiring assets beyond known income.

ACC Director General Md. Akhtar Hossain confirmed matter to reporters outside the commission’s headquarters on Sunday (March 16).

He said Inu is accused of obtaining 48,425,507 BDT worth of assets through criminal misconduct and misuse of power. He allegedly made suspicious transactions totaling 118,816,019 BDT in four bank accounts.

The case also includes charges of money laundering under various laws, including the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012, he said.

Additionally, his wife Afroza Haq is accused of acquiring 14,985,074 BDT worth of assets through the misuse of power.

The commission has also charged Hasanul Haq Inu for assisting in the illegal accumulation of wealth under his wife’s name, the official added.
