The Law Adviser to the Interim Government, Dr Asif Nazrul, has called rapists "beasts" and emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring exemplary punishment for them.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (April 28) at 1 am, Asif Nazrul made these statements.

He wrote, "During the July public movement, the daughter of a martyr was raped and later took her own life. She was buried beside her father at their home in Dumki, Patuakhali. This tragic incident has left us in deep sorrow. We will ensure swift justice in this case. The two accused in this heinous rape have been arrested and are currently in custody (the reports about their bail are incorrect). Their DNA samples have been collected. I have checked with the highest authorities in the police, and they will submit the charge sheet shortly. Once that's done, the trial will begin. According to the updated law, a verdict must be given within 90 days. However, with the DNA samples supporting the case, the trial should be completed even sooner."

Referring to the rape and murder of Ashia in Magura, he added, "After the police submitted the charge sheet in Ashia's case, the trial began last Wednesday. With DNA evidence and a confession under Section 164, I was hopeful the trial would be completed within seven working days. I trust there will be no delays."

While urging patience, Asif Nazrul also wrote, "I understand the distress when justice takes a little longer. But if the trial is not properly conducted, an appeal in the higher court may not uphold the verdict, which would be a serious setback. Like you, I am heartbroken, but for the sake of justice, we must be willing to wait a bit longer. The government is firmly committed to ensuring that these 'beasts' face exemplary punishment."
